2017: peace

In contrast to previous new year’s resolutions of impressive accomplishments and lofty goals, I wanted 2017 to be marked by a balanced rhythm of everyday life. More than feeling productive, I wanted to look back on this year and feel peaceful.

Instead of taking a spring break family trip, we moved into our own space and vacation money turned into rent. Instead of filling up my schedule with library storytimes and play dates, I pursued intentional relationships and rest. Instead of starting grad school, I focused on being present with my children.

Phoebe was born in July. I chose “Winifred” as her middle name, one translation which means “peaceful friend.” Peaceful is not a word I would use to describe my relationship with either of my parents, but one day, when Phoebe is an adult, I hope to be that friend to her.
